1. Theodor Geisel spoke both English and German.

2.  The first book that Theodor Geisel both wrote and illustrated, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry  Street, was rejected 27 times before being published.

3.  His mother, Henrietta Seuss Geisel, often soothed Theodor to sleep by "chanting" rhymes remembered from her youth.

4. His books have been translated into more than 15 languages.

5.  His honors included two Academy awards, two Emmy awards, a Peabody award and the Pulitzer Prize.
